Two bloggers detained in Iran have been named as Jolie King and Mark Firkin.

The couple were on a round-the world trip but are now facing a 10-year jail term for flying a drone without permission.

Their families have pleaded for their immediate release from Tehrans notorious Evin prison, saying the situation is a misunderstanding.

Ms King, who has joint British-Australian citizenship, is said to have been scared and intimidated while being held in solitary confinement.

The BBC reported that she is being held as part of a plan for a potential prisoner swap with Australia.

The couple, who have 19,000 followers on Instagram, were arrested in July having previously walked away from the 9-5 grind.

Ms King and Australian construction manager Mark Firkin were travelling overland from one side of the world to the other and documenting their adventures online, often with drone photography.

The couple, who were both travelling on Australian passports, had previously said they wanted to show that countries with bad reputations are safe to go to.

They began in the summer of 2017 and documented their journey on their The Way Overland accounts on YouTube and Instagram.

After driving from Perth to Darwin and island-hopping to Asia, they had driven west through countries including India, Pakistan and China.

They had ultimately planned to finish in the UK.

In an early post they wrote: Our biggest motivation behind the vlogs is to hopefully inspire anyone wanting to travel, and also try to break the stigma around travelling to countries which get a bad rap in the media.

The couple arrived in Iran on June 30 and told their followers they were camped on a nice hill next to the capital Tehran.

We just arrived. Its actually really beautiful.

Early reports said the pair were arrested while camping near a military area around Jajrood in Tehran province.

They failed to update their followers after that and worried fans took to Instagram to ask where they were.

Iranian television named the pair publically last night and said they had been arrested for flying a drone near Tehran without a licence.

Editor in chief at Iranian television station Manoto TV, Pouria Zeraati, said they had not yet stood trial.

Mr Zeraati tweeted: The family says this was a misunderstanding and Jolie King and her fiance Mark Firkin were unaware of the Iranian law which bans drone flights without a licence.

A second unnamed British-Australian woman is also reported to have been arrested in the country about a year ago.

The Cambridge-educated academic, who lectures at a Melbourne university, is reportedly also being held in solitary confinement.

While the charges against her have not been made public, Iran routinely hands out 10-year-sentences for spying convictions.

Australias Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is handling the cases of all three.
