Three people have been seriously injured this evening in a knife attack in Vienna.
A police spokesman confirmed that the victims were knifed during the incident in the Leopoldstadt district near Vienna’s famous Prater Park.
The victims are said to be one man and one women aged between 40 and 50, and their daughter.
Police are still searching for the lone assailant who fled the scene at around 7.45pm after allegedly ‘stabbing people at random’.
The victims are said to be from the same family and the motive for the attack was not known.
An area near to U1 Nestroyplatz station in Austria was cordoned off by police a short while later.
Pictures from the scene show blood on the floor and tape wrapped around the area.
Police spokesman Patrick Maierhofer said: ‘The three persons suffered heavy to life-threatening injuries and are currently in a hospital.’
A fourth person was attacked with a knife nearby a short while later.
Police said: ‘A link (between the attacks) is part of ongoing investigations.’
Witness Silvia Franke said she was about 300 feet away when the incident happened.
‘I saw how someone in the middle of the street was screaming and shouting – I thought he was beating his dog judging from his hand movements,’ she said. ‘And in reality he was stabbing this man.
‘He could have stabbed me as well had I been there by chance’.
