Fire in Manchester apartment block

Firefighters are tackling a blaze in an apartment block in Manchester city centre.

A spokesman for Manchester Fire said the ninth and 10th floors of a 12-storey block on Joiner Street were on fire and 12 engines are at the scene.

It advised people to avoid the area and for nearby residents to shut windows and doors.

Police said there were road closures in Joiner Street and in Church Street, between High Street and Tib Street.
