Masked gunman pictured shooting victim point blank on street in Yorkshire

This shocking photo shows the moment a masked gunman shot a man at point-blank range on a quiet residential street.

In one of the most appalling images yet as a wave of violent crime sweeps the country, the shooter can be seen taking aim at the victim who cowers on the ground.

Police released the image from a neighbours security camera in a bid to track down the gunman.

Its believed he fired what appears to be a long-barrelled weapon into his victims leg, in Birkby, West Yorkshire.

Seconds later the thug fled the suburban scene in a blue van.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, is currently in a stable condition in hospital with serious leg injuries after the 4.40am attack on Friday

Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack and have released shocking images from a residents CCTV camera in a bid to hunt down the gunman.

One local said: There was someone giving him first aid, applying pressure to a leg wound. It took about 45 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.

He had lost a lot of blood.

The image shows the suspect wearing what appears to be a black ski mask, grey tracksuit bottoms and a distinctive blue top with a white motif down the arms.

Det Insp Emma Winfield said: We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident or anyone who may have seen a man previously acting suspiciously in the area wearing similar clothing.

We also believe the suspect left the scene in a small blue van and would ask for anyone who may have seen this vehicle to contact us.

This is clearly a very serious incident and reassurance patrols will continue in the area while our investigation is progressing.
