Hit-and-run driver’s car battered with sledgehammer as he tries to flee crash scene
A hit-and-run driver’s car was attacked by an angry mob who battered it with sledgehammers after he tried to flee the scene of a huge crash.
Dramatic video footage shows the crumpled silver Infiniti SUV attempting to escape after slamming into six cars in Miami Saturday.
Moments before, it ran a red light at the junction of Biscayne Blvd and Northeast 36th Street.
But the other drivers whose vehicles were damaged by the careless driver were having none of it – and angrily descend on the Infiniti as he tries to drive off.
One man bangs on its windows, while another shakes his fists furiously and tries to open the car’s locked door screaming ‘Don’t move.’
Despite repeated threats and pleas from the furious mob, the driver tries to drive off – only for a man in a suit to pull a gun from his waistband and threaten him.
One of the first two men to confront him then snaps the door-handle off his crocked car, while a long-haired man smashes every one of the Infiniti’s windows with a sledgehammer.
Eyewitness Anthony Jiminez, who saw the drama told abc10: ‘You have a crash, you stop. It was just a mess.’
But he took exception to the sledgehammer rampage, adding: ‘I would call the cops and try to chase him down, but to pull out a hammer?’
The hit-and-run driver was arrested by police minutes after the final sledgehammer showdown.
Miraculously, no-one was injured during the high-octane confrontation.
But cops warned others not to repeat the actions of the vigilante drivers who ganged up on the SUV should they find themselves in a similar situation, and dial 911 instead.
