Instagram ‘Type Mode’ lets you post Stories using words instead of pictures
Your grandparents probably thought that a picture was worth a thousand words.
But they weren’t bombarded with millions of their mates’ selfies every bloody second of the day.
Now Instagram has offered you a respite from the shallow world of images with the launch of a bold new update which lets you post Stories using old-fashioned words instead of pictures.
Its new ‘Type Mode’ is a ‘way to share anything that’s on your mind with creative text styles and backgrounds’.
In a blog post, Instagram wrote: ‘When you open the camera, you’ll see ‘Type’ next to ‘Normal’ under the record button.
‘Tap ‘Type’ and write whatever comes to mind — your favourite lyrics, a silly thought or a random idea — and play with different styles to change the look and feel. Then, you can pick different background colors, highlight words and phrases or add a background photo.
‘You can also use the new styles when adding text to any photo or video. And, like everything else you share to stories, it’ll disappear from your story after 24 hours.’
You can also tap the button on top of the screen to change the font to styles including ‘Modern, Neon, Typewriter, and Strong’.
Tap the circle on the bottom left to change the colour of the background or the same icon in the bottom right to use a photo as a backdrop.
You can also add stickers by pressing the little arrow button marked ‘>’.
