Nursery worker ‘smothers toddler under blanket after he wouldn’t go to sleep’
A nursery worker was caught on camera allegedly smothering a toddler under a blanket when he refused to go to sleep.
The five-year-old child was left with nightmares following his experience at the Hongying Kindergarten in Hezhou City in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
CCTV shows the worker covering the boy’s face with his blanket and appearing to smother him under it for as long as two minutes.
After the boy told his parents about his traumatic experience, police were called to the nursery and the teacher was arrested on abuse charges.
The boy’s parents were also offered 50,000 RMB (£5,693) in compensation.
Other parents also complained about the nursery, saying that ‘many’ of the children were having nightmares because of their experiences there.
The nursery school’s principal, who has not been named, said in a statement: ‘We will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and will not hide from our responsibilities if found guilty.’
The boy’s parents said they are planning to use the money to pay for their child’s therapy.
The teacher reportedly has been dismissed and the nursery is thought still to be operating.
